The BMW i8 is billed as an eco-friendly sports car but one prototype got a little too close to nature when it left the road and got stuck in the snow.
A driver in a 2015 7-Series came to his assistance but since the i8 doesn't have a rear tow lug there was little he could do. After a chilly wait, snow clearing vehicles were brought in to free the stranded test driver.
As we have previously reported, the i8 has plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a 5 kWh lithium-ion battery. This enables the car to produce a combined maximum output of 362 HP (266 kW) and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) of torque. In terms of performance, the i8 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, average 2.5 L/ 100 km (94 mpg US / 113 mpg UK) and travel up to 22 miles (35 km) on electricity alone.
